Search and Recovery Specialty
This PADI Specialty course consists of two main phases:
1. Knowledge development sessions to discuss search and recovery techniques and lift-bag use.
2. Four shore training dives to practice techniques learned to successfully search and recover lost objects.
Knowledge Development:
You’ll gain the knowledge, dive theory principles and basic information required to make your search and recovery dives safe and productive. You’ll learn about the potential hazards, visibility, bottom topography considerations employed when searching for a submerged object. You’ll also be introduced to knot-tying and a variety of search patterns appropriate for different search areas.
Open Water Training Sessions:
During four scuba dives, you’ll learn how to:
Swimming search patterns using your compass and natural navigation.
Locating large and small objects using various search patterns.
Using a lift bag for large or heavy objects, plus other recovery methods.
Planning a search operation based on facts gathered about a lost object prior to the dive.
