The bull shark is quite a large shark that averages 2.50 meters with a weight of 130 kg. They can thrive in both freshwater and saltwater. The species is mainly found along coasts and within rivers all over the world.
What attracts them to the reefs of Playa del Carmen is the great number of cenotes that spew out vast amounts of cool fresh water into the sea. They also have enormous amounts of food with the many species of fish and turtles to keep them well fed which makes it the perfect breeding ground.
The bull shark is classified as an aggressive shark species. It may be the reason it attracts so many divers seeking the thrill of a lifetime.

Since the depth you need to dive to see the sharks is deeper than 18m/60ft you need to be an Advanced Open Water diver with at least 30 dives, have good buoyancy and air consumption and be in excellent mental and physical health.
